Bass Brothers
Bass Brothers
Hailing from the Portuguese city of Viana do Castelo, BassBrothers have been making waves not only in their country, but also internationally with support from some of the biggest names in Europe. This support has led to the dynamic duo gaining recognition not only in the underground scene, but right across the mainstream spectrum of Drum&Bass.

Having broken onto the scene in 2011 with their remix of Dub Zero’s ‘Get Up’, BassBrothers have firmly established themselves as one of the most exciting up and coming artists in the Drum&Bass arena. Two more releases on Easy Records and a breakthrough remix of Heist’s track ‘Unicron’ finally saw BassBrothers gain the attention of DNB pioneer DJ Hazard; earning them a release on his label Radius Recordings. Such was this breakthrough that Hazard included ‘Mr Jungle VIP’ in his Fabriclive Mix, which was released in September 2012.

From here they were catapulted into the mainstream with their innovative sound, as DJ Hype aired ‘Jamaican Thug’ on his Kiss FM show for the first time. Hype was sufficiently impressed by BassBrothers immediate and hard-hitting creativity that he invited them to join the Playaz family. Since this they have been featured on Crissy Criss and Friction's show on BBC 1Xtra and have consistently found their tracks played in the sets of the biggest DJs right across the world.

An interesting array of influences ranging from 30’s jazz and swing music to Hip-Hop and Funk has resulted in an eclectic blend of old school ferocity with new school originality. Their ability to fuse genres in an emotive and contemporary fashion is what sets BassBrothers apart from the rest of the pack. They have proclaimed themselves that they are ‘inspired by the music of the past doing the music of the future’. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for future releases from BassBrothers on Playaz!
Tyke
Tyke
Tyke: A mischief maker; a rascal; a cheeky little upstart gnawing away at the ankles of life with raw determination… Never, ever, letting go.

The tag relates to his days as a young graffiti artist, covering London’s rail network with his stark, sharp, vibrant style. But it’s just as relevant in the drum & bass world: His style is still distinctively sharp, stark and vibrant… But now he’s moved up from the ankles, he’s currently chewing the face off the scene, and he’s hungry.

Now signed to the mighty Playaz brand, with the help of scene forefathers DJ Hype and Pascal, Tyke is set to go supernovae. Once a semi-pro footballer, now fully committed to fine-tuning his mind-bending studio skills, his currency in D&B is more valuable than ever… But it’s always been strong; his earliest, self-released, tracks were supported by Hazard, Jumping Jack Frost and Nicky Blackmarket. Andy C joined quickly joined the premier support list when he snapped up Tyke and Recipe’s old skool homage ‘Music Makers’ for his ‘Nightlife 5’ mix.

Juggling worldwide tours, major festival appearances and a production schedule that features high profile EPs on Playaz, collaborations with of the scene’s most respected vocalists and remixes for numerous top tier imprints, he takes his game very seriously. And he does so while retaining his original rascal roots. Alter egos such as Mugabe and Retronym and tracks such as ‘Infected Headphones’, ‘Drug Pusher’ and ‘Buzzards’ have given him a distinctive, playful edge that grins wryly over his peers.
Hokilla
Hokilla
Well known for an extensive array of exclusive cuts from bad boy bass producers all over the world, DJ and Producer Hokilla has created a stir in the international drum and bass scene. A native of New York, Hokilla’s tireless work ethic and dedication to pushing energetic, forward thinking productions has led to over 50 releases on his acclaimed label, Digital Terror Records. Taking on the role of jump up tastemaker, his 13 years of experience has set the decks a flame on several national and world tour stops. Hokilla’s careful control of a crowd and ear for rugged dance floor ethics continues to make him a catalyst for explosive drum and bass sounds for years to come.
Mumdance
Mumdance
Building on his reputation for eclecticism and reinvention, Jack Adams, better known as Mumdance, is back with his new LP - Twists and Turns. After a two-year hiatus, taking time away from touring, clearing his show-addled mind, and switching from software to hardware based production, the new record reveals yet another 'back to the drawing-board' moment for Jack.

Since being discovered by Diplo in 2008 via his bootleg remix of the Black Lips' Veni Vedi Vici featuring Grime-scene stalwart MC Jammer, Jack has proven adept at keeping ahead of the music curve. That initial collision of indie and staunchly British grime was to set the tone for the early part of his career, propelled by Diplo and Mad Decent's backing from a bedroom remixer to a DJ touring the world within three months.

That first era of Mumdance production, heavily influenced by the aesthetic of 8-bar grime - early Wiley, DJ Oddz, and Ruff Sqwad - was exemplified by his release of a remix of Santigold's Creator, featuring Jammer, Tempa T, Chronik, Rage, Slickman & Badness. Followed by an EP made with Trim and released on No Hats No Hoods Recordings. His first EP on Mad Decent, the Mum Decent EP, led to two world tours which exposed Jack's mind to all sorts of regional music from around the globe, which in turn led to the fusing of his UK club sensibilities with more global sounds such as kuduro, funk carioca, tribal gurachero, soca, batucada carnival music and gagaku.

With these influences firmly in place, Jack pursued an even more varied working style, concentrating on a string of collaborations; mixtapes with NYC punks Cerebral Ballzy, producing UK grime bangers for Boy Better Know, cumbia in Mexico with Toy Selectah, techno in Paris with Brodinski, or tropicália for electropop heavyweights Bonde Do Role in Brazil. This fruitful period of travelling and producing culminated in his first mixtape album; Different Circles - a sprawling compilation of 13 of his best tracks blended together into a 40 minute mix, showcasing releases on a number of labels including Mad Decent, Big Dada, Trouble and Bass, Greco Roman Southern Fried and No Hats No Hoods.

Representing the start of what he refers to as a 'second wave of his career', his recent sabbatical in the UK countryside saw the launch of a Different Circles podcast and the symbiotic Different Circles parties. The new record,Twists & Turns, looks to very different sources from those that created the first LP - strong outside influences have been replaced with esoteric introspection - the new record being a personal reflection on the music of Adams' youth. Drawing on everything from 90s hardcore and proto-jungle to shoegaze classics. Twists & Turns maintains numerous nods to grime greats, pushing the new 130BPM instrumental grime wave. With this new sound comes a new set of record labels, with Jack releasing music on Hyperdub, Tectonic, Keysound & Unknown to the Unknown.

The ideals of Mumdance's new mixtape are reflected with the launch of his new live show; 100% hardware based, but stripped down to the bare minimum of a 909 drum machine, a hardware sampler, two decks and a mixer. The idea being to keep things as raw as possible, concentrating on the sound, vibe and dance floor, rather than relying on light shows or gimmicks. The sound moves between genres from minute to minute, but rests somewhere between Jeff Mills' live techno drum jams and golden era 8-bar grime.

Jack's eclectic discography and ability to work within both electronic and guitar based scenes is concrete proof that he always likes to keep things moving and not rest in one place for too long. His commitment to 'bringing different sounds and cultures together' is an ethos which runs at the very core of everything he turns his hand to. You literally never know what you are going to hear next.

MC Disekt
MC Disekt
San Diego native and resident Organized Grime emcee, Derek “Disekt” Ros, has been using his voice to make waves for as long as he can remember. Drawing inspiration from established emcees at massive events, Disekt’s passion for emceeing comes from the way he can engage and connect with the audience through words and music.

His underground Hip-Hop roots influence his lyrical style, while Drum n Bass and Jungle are his favorite genres.

“Nothing out there influences the drive I have on the mic when I hear Drum n Bass, but I love all forms of EDM—they all influence my happiness in some way.”

Disekt knew that emceeing was his calling when he got on the mic for the first time at 17. His friend, the late Michael “Tryxx” Eterovich’s reaction to the way Disekt could use words to manipulate the vibe of the room sealed the deal. To spread his love for bass music, Disket helped found Organized Grime, even getting both of his younger brothers involved, and aided in the creation of Esco Dojo. Although Disekt spends every Monday night making memories with the Organized Grime family, his favorite performance experience was emceeing for Sub Zero and Heist.

“The impact those DJs have on a crowd is insane. It was awesome just to be a part of it.”

Neuropunk
Neuropunk
Solomon Baldeo aka Neuropunk exudes the true renaissance man, tackling as many facets of the nightlife scene and art as humanly possible. DJ/Producer/Promoter/Designer/Illustrator/Writer…the list goes on for the many activities for his daily grind and he holds a deep passion for each one.

Neuropunk started his career in the Summer of 1999, spinning a variety of music, but gained notoriety for his futuristic vision for the harder, darker side of Drum n Bass. As he grew as an artist, his sound evolved towards a deeper, more minimal and headier vibe of all Bass Music. In 2011, his penchant for exploring new sounds lead him to become renowned in Los Angeles for his full-on live Juke/Footwork/Future Bass sets, as well as various mixes and podcasts. Today, you will find Neuropunk combining his past experiences and his vision for the future into sets encompassing nearly all forms of chest vibrating bass music.

From behind the turntables to behind the scenes, Neuropunk got involved with event production, first with DP Sound Crew in 1999, then with Grapevinez in early 2005. He has been one of the key scene-builders behind the LA bass scene, intimately involved in throwing Champion Sounds and History, the biggest Drum and Bass events in America. In 2010, he graduated to realizing his own vision of bass events with LA Beatdown at the Music Box, the premiere bass music event in the heart of Hollywood, steps away from the Kodak theater. Through it all, Neuropunk continued to fulfill his desire for new sounds, joining Blasted Events and Juke Bounce Werk in 2013. He now has firmly planted his foot at the forefront of West Coast Trap and Juke/Footwork movements.

Going forward, what matters is not the name of the sound, but moving people through their soul, mind and body.
