Moullinex (DJ Set)
Moullinex (DJ Set)
If there is an underlying trait in all good music, it must be its ability to crush boundaries between genres, dancefloors and couches, twelve inches and YouTube clips. Enter Moullinex, Lisbon and Munich-based Luis Clara Gomes. Originally from a small countryside town in Portugal, he was surrounded by music and musicians during childhood and since an early age has been solely dedicated to the pursuit of his own sound, refusing to adhere to a specific genre or scene, but taking comfort in disco and house as a starting point. That being said, if there is a common trait between his productions, it must be the careful craft of melodies, a strong degree of human touch in machine- based music, unpretentious synthesizers, desperate guitars, striking basslines, and beats reminiscing from a not so distant dancefloor past. Luis often collaborates with friends - in fact, most of the electric bass you’ll hear in his productions is responsability of renaissance man Luis Calçada (yes, another Luis), and the guitars are crafted by Bruno Cardoso, the creative force more commonly known as Xinobi.
While Luis has seen his work has received the acclaim of his peers, press and fans worldwide, with remixes for Cut Copy, Sebastien Tellier, Two Door Cinema Club (the list goes on and on...) and collaborating with Peaches for a disco-tastic rework of the classic track Maniac, he managed to find time to co-found the Discotexas imprint, together with Xinobi, now responsible for a flawless release catalog, along with a residency in one of the most sought-after clubs in Europe - Lux, Lisbon. Started in 2012, The Discotexas Band is label’s very own in-house band, reminiscent of old Soul & R&B bands from the Motown era, where Moullinex, Xinobi & Da Chick perform the label’s tracks along with their own.

If you think this is too much, wait: there’s more: the music videos for Moullinex are responsibility of Luis Clara Gomes and Luis Calçada. They have been praised everywhere, for use of ground-breaking technology and creativity.
Da Chick
Da Chick
"I am freak, I'm Da Chick, it is time for you to know me.."
With passion and straightforwardness Da Chick knows what she wants. She brings the old school Funk, the eternal groove of Soul and jumps to the Boogie Disco rhythm with a cocktail in her hand, singing sugary words on delicious beats.
In 2012 edits her first EP - Curly Mess out on Discotexas and since then the Lisbon artist never stopped throwing amazing live shows and new hit songs. In 2013 releases a new single - Lotta Love, and in 2015 her first debut album Chick to Chick, produced alongside Moullinex, Xinobi, Cut Slack & Isac Ace. The stage is her arena and she is invited to open for live acts such as Earth Wind & Fire or Maceo Parker, two massive funky legends. And she kills it!
Wild & Free
Wild & Free
Wild & Free began in 2015 as a fun way to spend a sunny LA sunday for Drew Kramer and George Cochrane, two highly regarded producers who had been recently introduced. They discovered common ground quickly—each played multiple instruments, sang like birds, and produced like wizards. When the day was done, the bewitching summer classic “Tropique” was the result, and the boys decided to keep this good thing going.

Since then, they’ve released a trio of well-loved EPs that showcase the results of their combined powers: “Low Pressure,” “The Moonhowler,” and “Life on Jupiter,” have racked up more than a million listens across Soundcloud and Spotify, and garnered glowing coverage by top music outlets such as Spin, XLR8R, Indie Shuffle, and more.

As word began to spread of what Drew and George were up to, they found themselves remixing a string of high-profile artists, such as Panama for Future Classic, Gigamesh (alongside heroes like Alan Braxe), Ben Browning of Cut/Copy, Karl Kling of RAC, and David Marston for Soul Clap Records. Offers for collaborations soon followed, producing tunes such as “Someday,” with Australia’s Falqo and a blessing from Touch Sensitive on bass. They next released “Higher” with disco edit don Falcon Punch.

SPIN Magazine caught the fever early on, proclaiming “As far as mental-vacation music goes, it’s hard to get much more escapist than this,” and comparing Wild & Free to contemporaries such as Classixx and Grammy winner RAC. XLR8R called “Tropique” one of the best tracks of 2015. LaGaSta called their music “Perfect for speeding down the freeway and falling in love.” Legendary KCRW DJ Garth Trinidad has peppered his sets with their music, and their tracks have been conspicuously present in compilations from outlets such as Noon Pacific, LaGaSta, and Toolroom placing them alongside artists such as Prins Thomas and The Juan Maclean. Wild & Free has even become a staple for artist-tastemakers such as Goldroom, Duke Dumont, Viceroy, and Just Kiddin, who add their tunes to influential playlists, grabbing a steady stream of new listeners.

Wild & Free are often happy to call the DJ booth home, but have recently begun taking their show live, recently culminating in a series of tour dates with Brooklyn groovers Body Language. The live vocals and percussion they employ in DJ sets are joined by guitars, keyboards, and further drums in the live set. This lets Wild & Free mold their music to the will of the evening, taking things in unexpected directions.

With their album “Shapes on Shapes” set for release on Portugal’s vaunted label Discotexas, and many amazing new collabs and remixes on the way, 2018 is set to be one hell of a year for Wild & Free. Who wants on the party bus?
